Alpine Legal Services Law Corporation, a multi-award winning lawyer and notary firm, was founded by Lawyer, Notary Public, Chartered Professional Accountant, and entrepreneur, Shanal Prasad, with a with a clear purpose: to build a revolutionary and innovative firm — one designed around efficiency, transparency, convenience, responsiveness, and approachability, to maximize value for our clients and to deliver a smooth, stress free experience for their real estate transactions.
Many lawyers and notaries are risk averse; therefore, they continue to rely on outdated, traditional business models and long standing, old-fashioned practices that leave little room for innovation and modernization. Shanal noticed that most lawyers and notaries bought, or inherited, an existing firm from a retiring lawyer or notary, or, they worked within a firm; thus, they have little motivation to bring about change and do things differently, rather, they seek to maintain the status quo.
Shanal saw this as an opportunity to create a purpose-built firm, built from the ground- up, to simply do things better, and, from there, Alpine Legal Services Law Corporation was born.
In order to deliver a smooth, stress-free experience for our clients, our firm is built around five core principles:
Our reputation is grounded in consistent service, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of the legal landscape in British Columbia. We focus on practical solutions that protect our clients’ interests while making the legal process straightforward and stress-free.
Our team is made up of knowledgeable legal professionals who are committed to delivering high-quality service with a personal touch. We believe strong communication, responsiveness, and expertise are the foundation of great legal outcomes—and we bring that mindset to every client interaction.
Founder, Real Estate Lawyer & Notary Public
Shanal Prasad is a Lawyer, Notary Public, Chartered Professional Accountant, and the founder of Alpine Legal Services Law Corporation.
Growing up near Langley, BC, Shanal went to Kwantlen University for his undergraduate studies and obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in Accounting.
During this time, Shanal had his own private tutoring business where he tutored accounting and finance for students at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels. He also volunteered extensively with organizations focused on financial education, youth entrepreneurship, poverty reduction, and advocacy for low-income individuals and families.
Shanal later obtained his Certified Management Accountant (now Chartered Professional Accountant) designation while working in industry. After a few years of working in industry, Shanal realized his passion was working with small businesses and being in the real estate industry, so he then decided to switch careers and enrolled in law school at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, BC, where he obtained his Juris Doctorate. During his studies, he also volunteered with the UBC Law Student’s Legal Advice Program, providing pro bono legal services to low income individuals.
After graduating from law school, Shanal moved to Abbotsford, BC, and then, subsequently, Chilliwack, BC. He worked as an associate with a mid-size law firm in the areas of real estate law, business law, and wills and estates law, before deciding to start his own firm. Shanal later brought on his good friend Cory Rypkema to take over his business law practice so that he could focus on real estate as his primary practice area.
Outside of the office, Shanal enjoys spending time with his wife and son, playing board games, exploring new restaurants, visiting museums and science centres, going on road trips, reading, and keeping up to date with technology. He credits his strong work ethic and business philosophy to his hard-working immigrant parents whose small cabinetry business was built on the simple principle: “do good work and feed your family with honest, hard-earned money.”
Business Lawyer & Notary Public
Cory Rypkema is a business lawyer who has lived in the Fraser Valley for most of his life and continues to do so with his wife and young twin daughters. Cory is Dutch, on his father’s side, and his Dutch relatives were an integral part of his life growing up, including his grandfather who fought in World War 2. He has visited The Netherlands, loves Dutch food, and cheers for their national football team during the World and Euro cups.
Cory studied at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology before attending law school at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops.
He started his legal career working with companies in Langley and Surrey as an in-house lawyer and General Counsel. After over 5 years of experience with large companies, he decided to shift into private practice, joining Alpine Legal Services in order to start up his own business law practice. Cory has known Shanal, the founder of Alpine Legal Services, since high school, and they attended university and law school together. They have a very similar vision of building a practice that offers affordable and personable services for clients all over the Valley.
Cory’s passion for working with small to mid-size businesses stems from his understanding that one of the biggest obstacles for small companies, as far as legal help, is cost. A small business simply cannot absorb a large legal bill the same way that a big corporation can, so he always finds ways to help solve issues and provide services in the most cost-effective way. Cory strives to be approachable, transparent, and cost-efficient. To further help small businesses, Cory offers his business law services remotely and virtually for business owners anywhere in British Columbia.
